A school bus hit a one-year-old boy and his grandmother in Mumbai at the Khetwadi area in Girgaum. The bus driver, after picking up the students, was moving
forward on the road when the incident happened. The boy died when taken to the hospital, while his grandmother sustained injuries. The police said that the 68-year-old grandmother was crossing the road with her granddaughter and one-year-old son in her arms when the bus hit them, according to a TOI report. "The school bus arrived in front of the Nirmal Niketan building in Khetwadi to drop/pick up school children. At this time, Chandrakala Shivram Vyas, a 68-year-old woman residing in the area, had gone to drop her granddaughter off at the same school bus. She was also carrying her one-year-old grandson in her arms," a police source told TOI.
The CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing how the bus driver allegedly rammed into the elderly woman and her grandson. The police are currently investigating the matter.

The driver, identified as Sambhaji Vakhare, has been detained by the police after he knocked down the elderly woman and her grandson. After the incident, the locals gathered, panicked, and tried to take the woman and her grandson out of the bus.
The injured persons were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced the baby boy dead. While Vyas is undergoing treatment.

Police Initiates Probe
The DB Marg police are currently investigating the case. The police also took the driver to the hospital, and his blood samples were collected to check whether he was drunk while driving.
Notably, the driver has been driving the bus for the past 10 years, according to an officer. According to a TOI report, the driver may be booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder under the BNS and dangerous driving under the MV Act.
