The Cincinnati home of US Vice President JD Vance in Ohio was targeted in a nighttime attack, with several windows smashed, triggering a swift response
from the Secret Service and local police. Secret Service agents rushed to the East Walnut Hills residence in the early hours of Monday, and a suspect was taken into custody. Authorities have not confirmed whether charges have been filed. Police told local outlet WCPO that the individual was detained but offered no further details. Notably, JD Vance was not present in the Ohio residence. He was there over the weekend but not at the time of the attack. Last week, Vance did not accompany President Donald Trump and other senior administration officials to Mar-a-Lago to observe the unfolding US operation in Venezuela, amid concerns that his presence could pose operational security risks. Instead, the vice president followed the operation through a secure video conference and flew back to Cincinnati after it concluded. His office said he was “deeply integrated in the process and planning.” In a statement, Vance’s office added that, due to heightened security concerns, the administration has sought to limit how often and for how long the president and vice president are co-located away from the White House. Police and Secret Service personnel were seen inside the property following the incident, though it is believed that neither Vance nor his family were at home at the time of the attack. The incident comes amid heightened security in the area over the New Year period. Roads surrounding Vance’s residence had been closed for several days until Sunday, with checkpoints established and residents advised to expect an increased law enforcement presence, according to city officials.
