New Delhi: The Congress on Wednesday alleged that registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs) are used to convert black money into legal political donations
to evade income tax. Congress MP ShaktisInh Gohil claimed that 3,260 registered RUPPS had received political donations and evaded income tax up to Rs 10,000 crore. The grand old party also demanded a probe into the alleged fraud by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). The Congress also alleged a nexus between the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) close associates and people earning more than Rs five crore. “They generate black money and are not even afraid, because they have the BJP’s protection. The laws are very strict. The Income Tax law was enacted during the Congress government and is a stringent law, but they have no fear because they have a security shield from the BJP,” the party said.

Gohil said, “BJP’s C-team and wealthy people, working together, manipulate the system and evade income tax.”
Citing the data by investigative journalists and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the Congress MP stated, “To evade income tax, there are 3,260 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) in our country. Now, under the Income Tax Act, there is Section 80GGC. Under Section 80GGC, if I am an individual earning more than ₹5 crore—or earning any amount—I have to pay income tax. But if I donate to a political party under Section 80GGC, I do not have to pay tax on that amount; my tax liability becomes zero on that portion.”
“The second provision is Section 80GGB, which applies to companies. If a company earns an income and donates to a registered political party, it does not have to pay tax on the donated amount; its tax liability on that amount becomes zero,” he added.
The Congress underscored that the amount received by the RUPPS more than what his party gets
Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh also shared similar data in his X post, targeting the BJP.
“So why is no investigation being conducted into these 3,260 fake political parties and the tax evasion cases linked to them? Is the reason for this that these fake political parties had the patronage of the BJP leadership and were carrying out all this scam with the government's blessings?” Ramesh questioned.
However, the BJP has not yet responded to these allegations.
