Amid ongoing students protests at the campus, Chitkara University near Rajpura has suspended regular academic activities for four days, from September
28 to October 1. This announcement was made by Dr Harpreet S. Bhatia, Pro Vice Chancellor – Human Resources through an official notice. "This is for the information of all faculty and staff members of Chitkara University, Punjab, that from September 28, 2026 (Monday) to October 1, 2026 (Thursday) shall be observed as Non-Teaching Working Days due to administrative reasons," an official notice released late at night on September 27, 2026 stated. In the notice, the officials have claimed that the classes have been suspended "due to administrative reasons", and the order does not apply to faculty and staff. October 2 is a national holiday, and October 3 and 4 are weekend, the classes are expected to resume on October 5, 2026 (Monday). The Rajpura-based university has suspended all classes due to ongoing student protests over unverified social media claims regarding the alleged deaths of two students on campus. Several social media posts claimed that students reported hearing screams on the night of September 24 and spotting two ambulances on the premises. Claiming that there was lack of communication from the camus management, a large group of studens reportedly gathered on the campus on Friday night to demand clarity and answers. The demonstration reportedly resulted in vandalism, with some claiming that the protests smashed window panes and caused damage to university property. Meanwhile, the Patiala police reportedly claimed that no deaths or suicides had been reported from the campus, while medical authorities confirmed no post-mortem involving a university student had been conducted in recent days. It has also been stated that the two ambulances at the girls’ hostel early on September 24 were for a student returning from the hospital. However, an investigation is currently underway.
Classes Suspended In LPU
Following similar protests at Lovely Professional University (LPU), the Phagwara-based institute also has suspended classes for 10 days, and postponed the scheduled mid-term examinations until further notice.
"Regular classes will remain suspended for a period of 10 days with effect from September 28, 2026 (Monday). Mid-Term Examinations are postponed until further notice. The revised examination schedule will be communicated separately via UMS," the University said in a release.
“Students may, in consultation with their parents/guardians, travel to their hometowns during this 10-day period, if they wish to do so. Students who stay back are advised to remain inside their hostels/places of residence and avoid unnecessary movement or involvement in any unrest activities in the interest of their own safety," the release added.
This comes after LPU students began protesting on the campus after rumours of a girl student being allegedly sexually harassed in girls' hostel spread across the campus.
