US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Monday (February 2) to announce that tariffs on Indian goods would be slashed from 25 per cent to 18
per cent. The long-awaited trade deal between India and the United States was finally unveiled, with Trump revealing it in his signature style. As news of the agreement began trending on social media, netizens couldn’t keep calm and flooded platforms with memes, with many dubbing it the “Father of All Deals.” Just last week, India and the European Union finalised a major agreement that was popularly labelled the “Mother of All Deals,” triggering a meme fest online. At the time, several memes even took playful digs at US President Donald Trump. Now, following the reduction in tariffs to 18 per cent, internet users have dubbed the India–US pact the “Father of All Deals.” Most memes revolved around the phrase “Father of All Deals,” with some humorous reactions calling it a “deal made in heaven.” One user wrote, “Finally, a deal that combines the efficiency of Indian bureaucracy with the affordability of American healthcare. A match made in heaven.” Another commented, “India–US trade deal — Father of all trade deals.” A third quipped, “Mother of all deals done (India–EU), Father of all deals done (India–US).”
One particularly enthusiastic post read, “‘Mother of All Trade Deals’ ultimately forced the so-called GOD of the Universe to deliver the ‘Father of All Trade Deals’. Proud of the mover and shaker of India… PM Narendra Modi.”
In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “Out of friendship and respect for Prime Minister Modi and, as per his request, effective immediately, we agreed to a Trade Deal between the United States and India, whereby the United States will charge a reduced reciprocal tariff, lowering it from 25% to 18%.”
Shortly after the announcement was made, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a post on X expressing his gratitude to the US President for lowering tariffs on Indian goods. In his message, PM Modi wrote, “Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18%. Big thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement.''
