Mumbai: In a major boost to the city’s transport infrastructure, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has officially expanded the city's
transit network. Starting April 8, commuters in the western and eastern suburbs will experience shorter travel times as new stretches of Metro Line 9 and Line 2B become operational.
Metro Line 9: Connecting Dahisar to Kashigaon
The extension of the Metro Line 7 (Red Line), known as Line 9, now reaches north also. This 5 km elevated stretch is a game changer for residents of Mira-Bhayandar. By extending the line from Dahisar East to Kashigaon, the MMRDA has bridged the gap between Mumbai city and the extended suburbs.

Metro Line 2B: The Eastern Link (Chembur to Mandale)
On the eastern front, a vital segment of Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line) is ready. This section connects the crowded hub of Chembur to the Mandale Depot. This is the first phase of the larger 23-km corridor that will eventually link DN Nagar to Mandale.

With the Mandale Depot now operational, the management for the Yellow Line will become more efficient, leading to better frequency and less delays.

Improved Timings During Peak Office Hours
Trains will now run from 6:00 AM until 11:00 PM, with peak-hour timings improved to every 5–7 minutes. This ensures that the "office rush" is managed effectively, providing a cool, air-conditioned alternative to the humid Mumbai heat.
Why This Matters for Mumbaikars
With the integration of these new lines, the Mumbai Metro network is slowly forming a seamless grid. For the thousands moving from Mira Road toward the city or from Chembur toward the eastern fringes, ths Mumbai Metro promises a commute that is predictable, safe, and faster.
