What is the story about?
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will start metro services at 4:00 AM on Saturday (August 15) to help Special Guests, invitees and the public reach
the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi. Metro services will begin from all terminal stations across the DMRC network. Trains will run at a 30-minute frequency on all lines until regular revenue services begin, as per the day’s scheduled timetable.
Special QR Tickets For Independence Day Invitees
To make travel easier for people attending the celebrations, the DMRC has provided 1.30 lakh special pre-vended QR tickets to the Ministry of Defence.
Invitees carrying valid physical admit cards issued by the Ministry of Defence will also be given special pre-vended QR tickets at designated metro stations. The cost of travel made using these special QR tickets will be reimbursed to the DMRC by the Ministry of Defence.
Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate Among Nearest Stations
The Lal Quila, Jama Masjid and Delhi Gate metro stations are among the nearest stations to the venue of the Independence Day celebrations.
Passengers travelling to the event are expected to use these stations to reach the venue conveniently. The early start is aimed at ensuring smooth movement of guests and the general public ahead of the celebrations. The special arrangements have been made for Independence Day 2026, which will be celebrated on Saturday, August 15.
The DMRC has advised passengers to plan their journey accordingly, especially those travelling early in the morning to attend the celebrations. Regular metro services will resume according to the scheduled timetable after the special early-morning operations.
Traffic Advisory for Delhi
The Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions around the Red Fort ahead of Independence Day celebrations on August 15. Several roads near the Red Fort will remain closed to regular traffic from 4 am to 10 am on August 15. Only vehicles with valid labels will be allowed to use these roads.
The restricted roads include Netaji Subhash Marg between Delhi Gate and Chhatta Rail Chowk, Lothian Road between GPO Delhi and Chhatta Rail Chowk, S P Mukherjee Marg between HC Sen Marg and Yamuna Bazar Chowk, and Chandni Chowk Road between Fountain Chowk and the Red Fort.
Restrictions will also be in place on Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road, Link Road towards Netaji Subhash Marg and Ring Road between Rajghat and ISBT Kashmere Gate.
