Pradesh Assembly elections. Responding to Owaisi’s pitch for opposition unity, Akhilesh Yadav made it clear that there would be no change in the Samajwadi Party’s existing alliance arrangement. While addressing a Press Conference in Lucknow, Akhilesh Yadav was questioned about the offer made by Assadudin Owaisi to which Akhilesh Yadav replied that the alliance will remain as it was. Rejecting the offer made by Owaisi, Akhilesh Yadav has given a clear message of how confident Samajwadi party is for the upcoming UP polls.
BJP Cannot Be Stopped By One Party: When Owaisi Made Offer To Akhilesh
Owaisi had earlier made a fresh pitch for opposition unity in Uttar Pradesh, arguing that the BJP cannot be stopped by one political party alone.
The AIMIM chief said that parties seeking to prevent the BJP from returning to power in UP should come together. Owaisi also said that his party was ready to work with “like-minded parties” and indicated that AIMIM was open to discussions ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Owaisi’s remarks drew a sharp response from the Samajwadi Party. The SP spokesperson Ashutosh Verma said Owaisi needs to remain updated with the political developments in UP, pointing to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the state. Verma said that the BJP was stopped in UP in the 2024 elections without AIMIM being part of the opposition alliance, claiming that the results demonstrated the SP-led alliance’s ability to take on the BJP.
Samajwadi Party Says No Change in Existing Alliance
The SP also questioned Owaisi’s focus on UP and said that if the AIMIM chief was serious about stopping the BJP, he should first focus on Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The party further alleged that Owaisi’s entry into UP politics was aimed at increasing tensions rather than contributing to opposition unity.
Akhilesh Yadav’s response puts the SP’s current alliance position in focus ahead of the 2027 UP polls. While Owaisi has called for a broader opposition front against the BJP, the Samajwadi Party has signalled that it is not looking to alter its existing alliance arrangement at this stage.
With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, the exchange between the SP and AIMIM highlights the emerging differences among opposition parties over the strategy to take on the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
