What is the story about?
Bengaluru: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has upped the ante against the Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the Centre ahead of its 'Chappal
Protest' in Bengaluru. In its X post, the CJP gave a strong message to the government, saying its demands, including Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and the rolling back of the Special INtensive Revision (SIR) exercise are "non-negotiable" and vowed not to back down. "Our demands are NON-NEGOTIABLE! We won’t back down until every single one of them is met," said the political pressure group.
The CJP also shared slides highlighting its three demands:
1) Gyanesh Kumar's Resignation: Gyanesh Kumar must resign. Initiate criminal proceedings against him. Answer who gave him the orders to steal votes.
2) Immediately halt all upcoming elections, freeze the SIR, and restore the January 2025 voter list. Set up an independent inquiry commission to probe the SIR's decision-making. The Supreme Court must also seize all SIR files into its own custody, so no one can later blame a "fire" for missing evidence.
3) Election Commissioners Appointment Law: Repeal the 2023 law on the appointment of Election Commissioners and enact a new law that inspires public confidence, built with active participation from civil society.
The CJP will hold a ‘Chappal protest’ at Bengaluru’s Freedom Park on Thursday after a People’s Tribunal on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The tribunal started at 10:30 am. JP founder Abhijeet Dipke and YouTuber Dhruv Rathee are also participating in the tribunal. on the SIR of electoral rolls. Actor-activist Prakash Raj is also attending the CJP-organised event.
Rathee had uploaded a video on his 'X' account confirming his participation in the programme and said the fight was to save democracy.
CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka had also announced on 'X' on October 6 that after attending the people's tribunal on SIR, they would interact with Kannadigas who have allegedly been wrongfully removed from the voters list. This would be followed by a "chappal protest" in solidarity with women, he had said.
CJP's October 10 Protest:
The Chappal Protest will be held two days ahead of the CJP's October 10 protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar. ON Wednesday, the political pressure group formally intimated the Delhi Police about its proposed protest."We reached the Parliament Street Police Station, and I handed them a formal letter. We informed them that the 'Cockroach Janta Party' and the youth of the entire nation, all these 'cockroaches’, are set to gather at Jantar Mantar on October 10. We asked them to maintain law and order, cooperate with us, and make necessary traffic arrangements. We have provided this formal intimation," CJP spokesperson Saurav Das had said after visiting Delhi's Parliament Street Police Station.
