Pune Leopard Attack Killed Teenager
Earlier this month, in a separate incident, a 13-year-old boy lost his life in a leopard attack in Pune's Shirur, leading to major protests at Manchar bypass on the Pune-Nashik highway.
The 13-year-old boy was playing when the leopard was hiding in a sugarcane field. The leopard came out of the field and attacked the boy, killing the child on the spot. The boy's parents demanded justice from the government, saying that unless the authorities capture and kill the leopard, they would not perform the last rites.
Meanwhile, the villagers demanded gun licenses to shoot leopards after a series of fatal attacks. M. Srinivas Reddy, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF, Wildlife), issued an order, noting the danger to human life due to the presence of the animal, and granted permission to capture the leopard alive using traps or tranquilization.
