Wolff echoed sentiments shared by geopolitical experts and strategic analysts, saying that Donald Trump’s policy towards India is pushing it closer to BRICS as an economic alternative to the West. Sharing his views on Donald Trump’s 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports to the United States, Wolff argued that India will find other places to sell its exports and that this move will only strengthen the BRICS nations.
Just like Russia found new markets after being hit by US sanctions, India will also find new export destinations and focus more on BRICS, Wolff said.

Speaking to RT, economist Richard Wolff stated that America is "hothousing" BRICS with its aggressive tariff threats. "If you shut off the US to India with big tariffs, it will have to find new places to sell its exports," he said. "Just like Russia found new markets, India will sell its exports not to America, but to the rest of BRICS. Trump imposed 25 per cent reciprocal tariffs and an additional 25 per cent penalty on Indian imports to the United States, citing India’s purchase of Russian oil something Washington believes is helping fund the war in Ukraine.
India has termed Trump’s tariffs unfair, unjustified, and unreasonable, saying it is extremely unfortunate that the US chose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest.
India added that it will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests.

Is Russian Oil Only Reason For Donald Trump's Tariffs Many analysts and geopolitical experts believe it’s not just about Russian oil. They believe that America may be fuming because India is refusing to bow to US pressure to stop purchasing Russian oil, something that has hurt Washington’s ego.
Trump has also failed to close a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) because New Delhi is not opening its agriculture and livestock markets, prioritising the interests of its farmers.
So basically, India is clearly refusing to follow US orders and that’s something the Trump administration is struggling to accept. Because if it were only about oil, then why is China exempted, even though it’s the largest importer of Russian oil.
