Mumbai Mega Block: Commuters travelling on Mumbai’s Western Railway corridor should be prepared for delays and cancellations this weekend as the railway
has announced a major night block on the Kandivali–Malad section. The block is being taken as part of ongoing infrastructure work for the construction of the 6th railway line between Kandivali and Borivali, a key project aimed at improving capacity and easing congestion on the busy suburban network. The block will be implemented during the midnight hours of January 11/12, 2026, with fast lines affected in both directions.
Why the Block is Being Taken
Western Railway said the night block is in continuation of ongoing work for the Kandivali–Borivali 6th line project. The additional line is expected to strengthen rail infrastructure on one of Mumbai’s most crowded suburban stretches, helping reduce bottlenecks and improve overall train movement in the longer run.

As per the update, the block schedule is as follows:
Up Fast Line
- Time: 23:15 hrs to 03:15 hrs
- Time: 01:00 hrs to 04:30 hrs
The block is planned during late-night hours to minimise disruption, but services may still be impacted for passengers travelling during these timings.
