Navi Mumbai: After decades of planning and anticipation, the greenfield Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to begin commercial operations
from Thursday, marking a major milestone in Maharashtra’s infrastructure journey. The launch is expected to cut travel time, ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport, and unlock tourism and investment across the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
First Day Operations and Flight Schedule
The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the implementing agency for the project, said the airport will handle 30 air traffic movements, arrivals and departures, on its first day. Major carriers including IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express and Star Air will operate services.
The inaugural arrival will be IndiGo flight 6E 460 from Bengaluru at 8 am, while IndiGo flight 6E 882 to Hyderabad at 8.40 am will mark the first departure from NMIA.
Calling the commencement historic, Vijay Singhal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO, said the airport reflects the sustained commitment of the Maharashtra government and CIDCO to long-term infrastructure development. “This landmark project symbolises our commitment to futuristic infrastructure, inclusive growth and global connectivity. It is a proud moment for every citizen who believed in this vision,” he said.
Delivered by the Adani Group and Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL), the airport features a striking lotus-inspired terminal, blending sustainability with innovation and reflecting India’s cultural ethos, officials said.
NMIA is expected to act as a catalyst for regional growth, benefiting Navi Mumbai and neighbouring areas including Pune, Thane, Panvel, Raigad and the Konkan region. The airport boasts strong multimodal connectivity through the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, national highways, suburban rail and upcoming metro corridors—laying the foundation for a robust multi-airport system for Mumbai.
