A statewide Odisha Bandh has been called for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 6 am to 2 pm by the Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), as a sign of protest
over alleged mismanagement in paddy procurement, with political support from the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. As the news of Odisha Bandh is spreading, students and parents are wondering if the schools will also be closed tomorrow? As of now, there is no official government order yet stating that schools are formally closed today due to the bandh. However, parents should independently check with their children's school authorities in the morning as some schools (especially private schools) may choose to shift to online classes or suspend classes for a day. Bandh usually disrupts public transport and public life due to which some schools choose to school closures or online classes. The students who will be heading to their schools tomorrow should ensure they leave well before the start time of their schools as public transport may be affected due to the bandh, and students might face disruptions in their usual routes to schools too. Meanwhile, Punjab had announced school holiday for January 27 (today). This decision was taken to allow students and faculty enough time to rest and recover after participating in numerous events organised by the schools. "On the joyous occasion of Republic Day, a holiday is declared in all government, aided, private, and recognized schools of the state on 27-01-2026 in the presence of the announcement made by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab. Ensure strict compliance with these orders," the official tweet by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains reads. This was announced a few days after Punjab schools reopened after extended winter break. After winter holiday extensions, schools in Punjab finally reopened on January 14, 2026. Following the reopening, primary schools were asked to operate from 10 am to 3 pm, while middle, high, and senior secondary schools had to function from 10 am to 3:20 pm. As of now, there is no school holiday announced in other parts of the country too, with majority states having resumed regular classes after winter breaks throughout December 2025 and January 2026.
