Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, in an exclusive conversation with Times Now, said that he did not grant any time for appointment to meet Congress
chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi. His statement comes after Rahul, Kharge along with INDIA bloc leaders sought to meet the CJI on the sidelines of their protest march (planned today) to the Supreme Court to raise the issues of alleged electoral fraud in view of the SIR row and deletion of voters. However, the CJI declined to meet Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on "vote chori" allegations, saying similar matters are sub-judice on the judicial side in the Supreme Court. When asked about Kharge and Rahul seeking the appointment, CJI Surya Kant told Times Now said, "I have not granted any time... have sent communication to them declining the request." "I have declined the meeting and communicated to them. I hope they release the reasons why they didn't get appointment." When asked about CPI(M) John Brittas - who alleged he was manhandled and assaulted by Delhi Police during the anti-Gyanesh Kumar protest - and has written to him, seeking his intervention, CJI said that every citizen, like a common man or Rajya Sabha MP, is most welcome to file a petition and we will certainly entertain it.
