its eighth day on Friday, the longest such encounter in the Union Territory. Further, a terrorist hideout was busted in the Gogaldara-Danwas forest area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.
Kulgam Encounter Enters 8th Day
In one of the longest active encounters in recent years in Jammu and Kashmir, the gunbattle in Kulgam district entered the eighth day on Friday, August 8.
Two terrorists have been gunned down in the operation. Meanwhile, four security personnel have also sustained injuries.
The security forces were using all means, including drones and helicopters, to track down the terrorists in the difficult terrain in the Akhal forest area.
Army's Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma reviewed the security situation and counter-terrorism grid in South Kashmir, where he was also briefed on the ongoing operation.
"The operation has entered its seventh day and is going on," an official said on Thursday.
Terrorist Hideout Busted in Baramulla, Arms Recovered
The security forces busted a terrorist hideout in the Gogaldara-Danwas forest area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district and recovered arms and ammunition from the spot. The police seized a grenade, a pistol, a magazine, nine rounds of ammunition and medical supplies.
Sharing an X post, Baramulla Police wrote, "On a specific input in the Gogaldara-Danwas forest, Baramulla Police busted a terrorist hideout. Recovered: 1 Pistol, 1 Mag, 9 rounds, 1 grenade & medical supplies. FIR registered at PS Tangmarg. Investigation underway."
Earlier on Thursday, a major terror attack was foiled by the forces in Punjab and recovered an IED. The forces foiled a terror attack planned by Pak-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operatives Harwinder Rinda and terrorist Lakhbir Landa.
