What is the story about?
The central government has approved early salary and pension disbursals for its employees and pensioners in Maharashtra and Kerala, citing the upcoming
Ganapati and Onam festivals. As per the Ministry of Finance’s Office Memoranda dated August 21 and 22, 2025:
- Maharashtra: Central government employees, including those in Defence, Posts, and Telecommunications, will receive their August salary on August 26, 2025 (Tuesday), ahead of Ganapati, which falls on August 27, 2025.
- Kerala: Employees and pensioners in the state will be paid on August 25, 2025 (Monday), ahead of Onam, which will be celebrated on September 4–5, 2025.
Treated as Advance Payments
The Finance Ministry clarified that these payments are to be considered advance disbursals. The salaries, pensions, and wages released will be adjusted against the final August/September 2025 settlement once the complete month’s entitlements are calculated.“The salary/wages/pension so disbursed is to be treated as advance payments and will be subject to adjustment after the full month’s salary/wages/pension of each employee/pensioner is determined,” the circular noted.
Banking Instructions
The Ministry has also requested the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to direct paying branches across Kerala and Maharashtra to implement the disbursal schedule without delay. Industrial employees of the central government in Kerala are also covered under the early release directive.Do you find this article useful?
