In a blatant disregard of Indian laws and punishment, a man- quite nonchalantly - was seen filling a tank without a bike with petrol at a petrol pump amid
fuel shortage. For context, selling or buying petrol in bottles or any other such container is banned in India. The rule was enforced under Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) guidelines. The ban is based on the Petroleum Act, 1934, and aims to curb fire hazards and such accidents. However, despite the law, the man was seen filling his tank without a bike at a crowded petrol pump. To make everything worse, the man was also being lectured by a man in uniform, who was standing nearby, yet he continued anyway. What further triggered many on social media was the way the crowd encouraged his behaviour by giggling and smiling at him for “finding a loophole”. The video went viral and drew major criticism. Many demanded the man’s arrest, while some blamed everything on “lack of civic sense among Indians”.
