Iran could face natural gas shortages in several provinces this winter after damage to the country’s gas infrastructure during the war with the United
States, Iranian officials have warned. Houshang Seydali, director of gas distribution coordination at the National Iranian Gas Company, said several provinces could experience supply problems unless authorities adopt strong and coordinated measures ahead of the winter season. “Without strong, coherent and coordinated plans, several provinces could experience gas-supply problems,” Seydali said, according to Iran’s state-run Islamic Republic News Agency. Three provinces face greater risk Seydali identified North Khorasan, Mazandaran and Golestan as the provinces that could face the most difficult conditions during the winter. He said restrictions could also be introduced in eight other provinces, depending on pressure levels and the overall condition of Iran’s gas distribution network. Authorities are urging households and industries to reduce consumption, particularly during periods of extreme cold, as demand management becomes increasingly important. Power generation could also be affected The potential gas shortage could have consequences beyond household heating. Seydali warned that electricity generation could come under pressure because a significant share of Iran’s power production relies on natural gas. “Industry, households and National Iranian Gas Company employees will all need to contribute,” he said, urging consumers to limit usage when temperatures fall sharply. Officials said reducing demand would help preserve supplies for both households and industrial users during the most challenging periods of the winter. War damage hits gas production Iran’s gas network has suffered damage during the ongoing US-Iran conflict, according to IRNA. The attacks have reduced the country’s gas production capacity, increasing concerns about whether existing supplies will be sufficient to meet winter demand. The warning comes as Iran prepares for the colder months with its energy infrastructure already under strain, raising the possibility of supply restrictions if consumption rises sharply or further disruptions affect production and distribution.
