On the occasion of International Yoga Day, the state government of Haryana has declared that yoga will now be included in the curriculum for class 6 from
the present academic session 2026-27 and for classes 3 to 9 from the next academic session across schools, universities, and various recruitment examinations in the state. The aim of this initiative is to promote yoga and holistic wellness among the students from an early age and ensure participation of students in large numbers in structured yoga education, followed by the celebration of International Yoga Day today. The state government has said that as a part of the implementation plan, all the Physical Training Instructors (PTIs), Physical Education (DPED), Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), and selected Primary Teachers (PRTs) will be provided with special training in yoga and its various asanas to strengthen teaching capacity in institutions across the state. Further, the government has also announced that all the examinations that are conducted by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) will consist of mandatory questions related to yoga education. Yoga will also be integrated as an important component in the five centres of Excellence, which are being set up in various universities in the state, the government added. The government's effort to implement yoga education can be observed in its decision to establish a state-level institute of naturopathy and yoga in Morni to promote research, training, and wellness-based education. The CM of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, had addressed a yoga practice programme organised at the dham of Baba Bhuman Shah located in the village of Sirsa district on Friday. During his address, he said that the entire world will celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21. Therefore, the state is organising yoga practice programmes across the state. He also expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he says that it is the efforts of the PM that Yoga has attained an international stature.
