Online marketplace eBay plans to cut around 1,000 jobs as per a Reuters report. This is approximately 9 percent of eBay's workforce. In an internal memo
reviewed by Reuters, eBay CEO Jamie Iannone informed employees about the planned workforce reduction. In the memo cited by Reuters, Iannone said, "Our strategy is working," adding that "continuing to capture the significant opportunity ahead requires us to make thoughtful choices about where we focus and invest." The latest job cuts follow another round of layoffs in February, when eBay reportedly eliminated about 800 positions, representing approximately 6 percent of its workforce. According to the report, the restructuring comes as the company focuses on categories including authenticated luxury goods, collectibles and refurbished products. According to Reuters, an eBay spokesperson confirmed the planned layoffs. CEO Jamie Iannone said affected employees will be informed in the coming days. The report added that the company had approximately 12,300 employees at the end of last year, before the two rounds of workforce reductions.
