Every year, the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education hosts a national-level function on September 5 to honour distinguished teachers from across the country with the awards.

This year’s event is taking place at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. As many as 48 selected teachers are from 27 States, seven Union Territories, and six Central Government organisations. Of these, 26 are male, and 22 are female.

The President also presented National Awards to 21 teachers and faculty members from higher education institutions and polytechnics. These include twelve teachers and faculty members from Central Higher Education Institutions, five from state universities, including three government and two private colleges, and four from polytechnics, including two government and two private polytechnics.

13 skill trainers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship were also selected for the honour.
