While more than 1.2 lakh internship opportunities were made available by partner companies under round 1 of the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS)
pilot project, only 2,066 candidates have completed their internships as of November 30, 2025. This data has been shared by Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the ongoing winter session of Parliament. Data shared by the Ministry shows that more than 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were posted by partner companies under round 1, against which 82,077 offers were made, and 28,141 offers were accepted. In the second round of the PM Internship Scheme Pilot Project, partner companies posted over 1.18 lakh internship opportunities (new and edited unfilled opportunities of previous round) across the country. Over 4.55 lakh applications were received from over 2.14 lakh applicants, in this round. Partner companies made over 83,000 offers and over 24,600 offers were accepted. It should be noted that the duration of internship under the Pilot Project is 12 months, so the completion dates of internship under round 1 are from November 2025 to March 2026, and under round 2 are from April 2026 onwards, depending on the date of joining of the interns.

While Uttar Pradesh (UP) recorded the highest number of internships posted, Assam recorded the highest completion rate among all states, accounting for more than one-fourth of its accepted candidates completing internships by the end of November 2025.

"The PM Internship Scheme is designed to enhance industry-relevant skills, improve job readiness, and foster professional exposure through structured internships in India’s top-performing companies and institutions to create job ready, skilled workforce," Sitharaman stated in her written response. "The PM Internship scheme is not designed to provide placements. However, appointment/placement offers are being issued by the companies after assessing candidates’ suitability as per their workforce requirement and company policy."
