As a cold wave and dense fog have tightened their grip on Punjab, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for various regions.
The rough weather and low visibility have made it harder for students to commute, especially during the early hours of the morning. With schools slated to reopen tomorrow in Punjab, many students and parents are urging the authorities to prolong the winter holidays, considering the situation. Earlier, the Punjab winter holidays 2026 were declared until January 7, 2026. However, the Minister of School Education of Punjab, Harjot Singh Bains (after consultation with CM Bhagwant Singh Mann), provided an extension till January 13, 2026. As per the previous order, all schools in Punjab will reopen on January 14, 2026. Nonetheless, students and parents are constantly urging the authorities to prolong the winter vacation, as regions like Bhatinda, Firozpur, Moga, and Muktsar have been put on red alert, while an orange alert has been sounded for Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, and Nawashahr. Students and parents are constantly commenting on CM Bhagwant Mann's and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains' Twitter posts seeking a winter holiday extension.
