Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Bihar's Gaya on Friday turned into a talking point after two Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLAs were spotted on stage,
triggering speculation of rifts within the party. Vibha Devi, MLA from Nawada and wife of former RJD legislator Raj Ballabh Yadav, and Prakash Veer, MLA from Rajauli, were seen seated at the back of the stage as the Prime Minister launched a sharp attack on the RJD, accusing it of years of corruption and misrule and "appeasement politics." Their presence created unease within the RJD leadership, which is currently holding the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' led by Tejashwi Yadav and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the state. Party insiders admitted the episode had "embarrassed" the leadership and signalled "growing cracks" ahead of the assembly polls, Times of India reported. Both MLAs had earlier rebelled against the RJD's Lok Sabha candidate from Nawada, Shravan Kushwaha, and extended support to Vinay Yadav, brother of Raj Ballabh Yadav, a move that ultimately helped BJP's Vivek Thakur clinch victory. The unexpected sight of the two legislators at the PM's rally has now fuelled fresh speculation of discontent simmering within the RJD camp in poll season. "Remember the condition here during the rule of lantern (RJD). This region was in the clutches of red terror. Cities like Gaya Ji were in darkness during the rule of 'lantern' (RJD)... They had pushed the entire state into darkness. There was no education or employment. So many generations were forced to migrate. RJD considers the people of Bihar only as their vote bank. They want nothing to do with their life, sorrows, or respect," PM Modi said.
Assembly elections in Bihar are expected to take place between October and November.
