Guwahati: The Indian Army has rescued more than 200 stranded civilians as it intensified flood relief operations under Operation Jal Rahat in the flood-affected
districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat in Upper Assam. Acting on a requisition from the civil administration, the Army deployed four Flood Relief Columns of the Red Shield Division under the Spear Corps to carry out rescue, evacuation and humanitarian assistance in the affected areas. The relief columns have been deployed at Nazira and Amguri in Sivasagar district, Sonari in Charaideo district, and Jorhat, with additional support from other formations under the Spear Corps.
Equipped with rescue boats, medical teams, engineering resources and relief supplies, Army personnel have evacuated families stranded in inundated areas, provided emergency medical assistance and distributed essential relief materials to affected residents.
To strengthen rescue efforts, the Army is also conducting helicopter reconnaissance sorties and using drones to assess the flood situation, identify stranded people and guide the deployment of resources. Army engineering teams are simultaneously working to restore connectivity in areas where roads and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters.
The operations are being carried out in close coordination with the district administrations of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other civil agencies. Additional resources have been kept on standby for immediate deployment if the situation worsens.
The Indian Army said it remains committed to supporting the civil administration and providing all possible assistance to the people of Assam as rescue and relief operations continue across the flood-affected districts.
