Mumbai Metro Disruption: Mumbai Metro's Aqua Line faced back-to-back disruptions on Friday (May 22) due to "technical glitches", leaving commuters stranded
during the peak hours. Since the metro line, also known as Line 3, faced two technical snags, services were temporarily suspended, causing inconvenience to the commuters. The technical failure brought services to a halt for almost an hour. The first disruption, which happened around 8:30 am, lasted 40-50 minutes and affected office-goers during rush hour, with passengers accusing the authorities of not sharing timely updates, according to a PTI report. According to an official from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), the issue originated from the Operations Control Centre (OCC) and affected train operations on both corridors of the Aqua Line. As train movements came to a halt, the crowd swelled on the platforms of Metro stations and concourse areas. In a statement, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited said train services on both downline and upline routes experienced delays due to a technical issue earlier in the day. "The fault has since been rectified, and normal train services restored," it said, without specifying the nature of the technical fault or the timing of the disruption.
Another Technical Snag Hits Mumbai Metro
Later in the day, the Mumbai metro line faced another similar issue due to a technical issue around 1:30 pm. Services on the entire stretch from Aarey JVLR and Bandra Kurla Complex were halted.
Earlier on May 6, train services on the Aqua Line, which runs between Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai and Aarey JVLR in the northern suburbs, were hit due to a fire at T2 Airport station.
After being stranded inside stations and trains, commuters took to social media to allege that no clear announcements were made about the cause of the disruption or the expected time for resumption of operations.
