In view of Republic Day, all government, aided, private, and recognised schools of Punjab will remain closed today, January 27, 2026. School authorities
must ensure strict adherence to the orders issued by the higher authorities. Students will now return to their classes on January 28, 2026, as per the usual timings. In case of any confusion or query, students as well as their parents can get in touch with the school administration. "On the joyous occasion of Republic Day, a holiday is declared in all government, aided, private, and recognized schools of the state on 27-01-2026 in the presence of the announcement made by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab. Ensure strict compliance with these orders," an English translation of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains' tweet reads. While some students are happy with the authorities' decision to announce a holiday on January 27, 2026, others are posing questions like, "Why is there a need for a holiday tomorrow? We have already celebrated Republic Day today." Meanwhile, a lot of students and parents are raising concerns about non-compliance of schools with the authorities' decision. Many of them have not received holiday updates from their schools, while others are stating that both the students and the faculty have been instructed to attend the schools as usual. Voicing their concerns, one user wrote, "Just look at the situation, sir. I work at Akal Academy, and my child studies there too. It's already past 10 o'clock now. I even asked Principal Madam yesterday if there's a holiday today. They said they can't tell yet—your orders will come, and then they'll let you know. @harjotbains, I request you to please pay attention to this side as well."
