New Delhi: In a major administrative move aimed at improving governance and service delivery, the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD)
has reorganised Delhi’s districts, increasing the number from 11 to 13, with immediate effect. The change was officially notified on December 25. To ensure that citizens do not face any disruption in essential services - especially property and document registrations - the government has issued an interim arrangement clarifying which Sub-Registrar Offices (SROs) will handle registrations under the new district boundaries. Officials said this step is intended to keep registration processes running smoothly during the transition period.

Why the Reorganisation?
The district reorganisation is designed to streamline administration and bring government services closer to residents, according to officials. However, with the boundaries of districts changing, there was a risk of confusion about which SRO citizens should visit. The temporary mapping of SROs aims to minimise inconvenience until the full expansion of offices is implemented.
Officials emphasised that this arrangement is temporary, meant only to ensure continuity in registration services. As approved earlier by the Cabinet, Delhi will soon see a significant expansion of its registration infrastructure, with the number of existing SROs increasing from 22 to 39. Details of this larger overhaul will be notified separately in the coming days.
For now, residents are advised to continue using their current Sub-Registrar Offices as per the interim mapping, even as the city transitions into the new 13-district administrative structure.
