The State Department is rolling out its commemorative Trump passport nationwide after receiving what officials describe as overwhelming demand from applicants
who previously had to travel to the nation's capital to get one. The passports feature an image of President Trump on the inside cover, showing him leaning over the Resolute Desk with a serious expression, positioned above his signature. According to CNN, the design was first revealed in the spring and marketed as a limited edition tied to America's 250th anniversary, described by officials as including customized artwork and enhanced imagery. Interestingly, the original mock-up shown to the public back then featured a different photo of Trump than the one that ultimately made it into circulation. The State Department started actually issuing these passports in early July, but only to people who applied in person at the passport agency in Washington, DC.
Now Available Across the Country
That's about to change. The agency announced Thursday that it's releasing an additional 250,000 of these commemorative passports, officially named the Patriot Passport, to the broader public. This means people outside the DC area will finally get a shot at applying for one.It's worth noting that nobody receives this passport automatically just by applying for a regular one. Anyone who wants the Trump-themed version has to specifically seek it out.
How to Get One
Starting in August and running through September, the State Department will hold special in-person events specifically for the 250th anniversary commemorative passport at various agency locations around the country. Anyone interested can book an appointment at one of these events to apply.There's also a second path. Anyone who applies for a standard passport in person at the Washington, DC passport office can receive the commemorative version as well.
Options for Those Who Would Rather Skip It
Not everyone wants this particular design, and the State Department has made clear that plenty of alternatives remain available. Applicants can apply online, submit their application by mail, apply through a US embassy or consulate while abroad, or head to a local acceptance facility such as a library or post office.Even people applying in person in Washington, DC have a choice in the matter. They can request a large passport book instead, which keeps the traditional design and does not include Trump's image.
