As Stage-II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) was invoked across Delhi-NCR on Monday, November 02, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also
announced a service update in view of the same. The Delhi Metro will reportedly run 20 additional trips on weekdays from Tuesday, November 03, taking the total number of additional trips on its network to 40. The additional trips are aimed at encouraging commuters to use public transport instead of private vehicles amid deteriorating air quality in the region. “In the wake of the implementation of GRAP-II in the capital, Delhi Metro will be running 20 more trips from tomorrow on weekdays, thereby, increasing the total number of additional trips on its network by 40. This is to encourage more and more people to use public transport than their private vehicles and help mitigate pollution,” the announcement post read.

Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed the 300 mark and entered the ‘very poor’ category, resulting in the CAQM invoked the GRAP-II across Delhi-NCR. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s AQI stood at 327 today.
It was after taking stock of the worsening air quality situation and the air quality forecast provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and IITM that the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) Sub-Committee on GRAP decided to invoke Stage II.
The GRAP-II imposition came the day ahead of Diwali, which will be celebrated on Sunday, November 08.
According to the forecast provided by IMD and IITM, Delhi’s overall air quality is likely to remain in the ‘Very Poor’ category over the coming days. The CAQM, in its press release, has directed all concerned agencies to implement measures under Stage II of GRAP in earnest, in addition to the Stage I measures already in force.
Pollution Control Boards (PCBs) of NCR states and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) have also been advised to ensure strict implementation of the prescribed measures.
