The building collapse near Satya Niketan in South-West Delhi has triggered a political row, with opposition leaders and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)
questioning the state of infrastructure and the administration’s response as several students are feared trapped under the debris. CJP’s Abhijeet Dipke reacted to the incident, drawing a comparison with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Delhi University a day earlier. Four patients from the Satya Niketan building collapse were brought to the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre (JPNATC) for treatment. Of them, two are in critical condition, while one rescued patient was treated and has since been discharged. One person was brought dead to the hospital. “Yesterday, the PM visited DU, gave a political speech and even invoked the term ‘Dimagi Naxal,’ while speaking very little about the state of our educational infrastructure. Today, a hostel building in South Campus has collapsed, with students feared trapped under the debris,” Dipke wrote on X. He questioned how long students would have to “pay the price” for what he described as failing infrastructure and neglect. “Students deserve safe classrooms, safe hostels and basic dignity. Is that really too much to ask? Will the PM visit DU again and explain how did this happen?” he asked in a post on X.

In another post, Dipke alleged that students were trapped under the debris while locals were attempting to rescue them with their bare hands. He questioned the absence of the administration at the site and asked, “When every minute could save a life, where is the administration?”
Amid the rescue efforts, CJP's Co-Convener Ashutosh Ranka appealed to CJP volunteers in Delhi to reach the site and support the rescue operations.
“Very distressing visuals coming in from Delhi. Requesting all the CJP volunteers in Delhi to go and support the rescue operations. Praying for the safety and security of our students,” he wrote.
AAP Questions MCD, BJP Leaders Highlight Rescue Efforts
Former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal took to X, calling the collapse "extremely tragic and alarming". "I pray to God that the people trapped in the debris are rescued safely and quickly."
He further claimed that due to the government's negligence in Delhi, many such accidents have already occurred. "The government must wake up from its slumber. There is a need to take large-scale action to ensure the safety of citizens."
AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that around 30-40 students were feared trapped under the debris and alleged that corruption in the MCD’s building department was responsible for repeated building collapses.
“Another building collapse in Satya Niketan; it was a PG accommodation of South Campus college students for DU,” Bhardwaj wrote, alleging that the situation was similar to the earlier Saket building collapse. He also alleged that transfers of executive engineers in the MCD’s building department involved large sums of money and claimed that such practices would allow similar incidents to continue. These allegations have not been independently verified.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi called the incident “extremely heartbreaking and alarming” and demanded a high-level investigation along with strict action against those responsible for negligence.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Kailash Gehlot said the Delhi government was responding with “full promptness”, adding that the fire department and disaster management agencies were active at the site.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said teams from DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were involved in rescue operations. BJP Minister Ashish Sood also said rescue and relief operations were underway and that the situation was being closely monitored.
The NSUI said its team had reached the spot and was assisting in relief and rescue operations.
30-40 Feared Trapped; Five Rescued, Taken To AIIMS
The collapsed structure reportedly housed a PG accommodation used by students, with around 30-40 people feared trapped under the debris. Five people have been rescued and taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
A JCB machine has arrived at the site as rescue operations continue. Emergency agencies are working to locate and evacuate those still trapped under the rubble.
What Happened At Satya Niketan?
The building collapsed near Satya Niketan in South-West Delhi, with several students feared trapped beneath the debris. The structure reportedly housed a paying guest accommodation for students from Delhi University’s South Campus.
Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Services, NDRF, DDMA, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence are carrying out operations at the site. The adjacent building has also been vacated as a precautionary measure.
Balraj Singh, Nodal Officer for CATS (Centralised Accident and Trauma Services), said that five people have so far been shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. “We cannot comment on their condition yet; the hospital will be able to provide an update,” he said. Singh added that officials were estimating 25-30 casualties and said 17 ambulances had been deployed at the spot.
