Entrepreneur Anupam Mittal, after the Narendra Modi's appeal amid the global energy crisis, has announced that his company Shaadi.com will introduce one
work-from-home day every week for its staff. In an update on X, Mittal said, “Kabhi socha nahin, but 1 day remote for 500 employees means 30 k liters of petrol saved a year. Wed r now WFH.” (Never really thought about it, but even 1 day of remote work for 500 employees can save around 30,000 litres of petrol a year.) The majority of social media users lauded Mittal's announcement. One of the user, reacting on his social media post, said, "It's a good idea. People who commute a lot will get to rest properly." "Good initiative, but strange that an experienced leader/entrepreneur like you never thought about it. There are tons of articles and videos on the internet telling us since COVID times that wfh will save fuel and decrease pollution," another user said. As per the reports, IT industry body, NITES, has submitted an official representation to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, seeking issuance of an advisory directing mandatory “Work From Home”. The body said that the WFH request was sent for the IT/ITES sector, wherever operationally feasible. It added that the demand is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal regarding fuel conservation and the reduction of unnecessary travel. During a speech, PM Modi had highlighted how habits developed during the Covid-19 pandemic can once again help the country save fuel and foreign exchange. "During the Corona period, we developed many systems of work from home, online meetings, and video conferences, and we even became accustomed to them. Today, the demands of the times are such that if we restart these systems, it will be in the national interest. We must prioritise work from home, online conferences, and virtual meetings again," he said. Experts believed that the government’s message appears more focused on encouraging temporary restraint in imports and preserving macro stability rather than indicating any structural negative stance towards gold ownership itself.
