As thousands of protesters gathered for the Cockroach Janta Party's planned peace march on Monday, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said they remain open
to talks with the government while asserting that the "ball is in their court". Speaking to reporters, Saurav Das said the administration had initiated efforts to open a dialogue. Nearly 2,000 protesters had reached the demonstration site ahead of the march, with heavy security deployed across the area. "The administration is trying to open talks with the government. They have come very late, but we have opened our hearts and said that we are willing to talk to them. There has been no clarity from their side as of now. The ball is in their court," Das said. Das also shared an update on activist Sonam Wangchuk, saying he remains stable and continues his indefinite hunger strike. "Sonam ji, so far he is stable, and he is continuing his hunger strike. He has sent his very best wishes to the young protesters of this country who have finally awakened to this very difficult, very dead system that does not listen to them at all," he said.
Sonam Wangchuk to end hunger strike today on 1 of 3 conditions
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has announced that he will end his indefinite fast today if any one of three conditions that he has set is met, according to a letter he wrote from Safdarjung Hospital. In the handwritten letter shared on his social media platform on X, Wangchuk said he would break his fast on July 20 if the government accepts accountability for recent failures in the education system, including question paper leaks.
As a second condition, he said he and the leadership of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) should be allowed to reach Parliament, where MPs from different political parties would assure them that the issue would be raised inside both Houses during the Monsoon session, which commences from today.
Alternatively, if his health or other circumstances prevent him from travelling, Wangchuk said MPs and political leaders should visit him at the hospital and provide the same assurance in person.
The activist has been on an indefinite hunger strike over alleged irregularities in the education system.
