This year’s Monsoon is turning into a pure nightmare for the entire country. However, the states that are witnessing the most destruction are Himachal
Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. With death tolls rising with every passing hour and flooded rivers widening further-- to more hands joining in for rescue missions- not only the state's authorities but its residents and tourists too are struggling to reach normalcy. Amid countless videos and horrifying incidents surfacing on social media, another clip was shared online, which highlighted just how fetal the conditions in Himachal have turned. The clip-in-question was from Himachal’s Manali. The mind-boggling video showed only the front wall intact of a popular restaurant- Sher-e-Punjab- whereas the rest of the structure got swept away in the raging River Beas flowing at the back of the eatery. Himachal has been witnessing continuous rainfall for quite a while now, resulting in the rise of River Beas’ water level. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on the other hand, issued a Red Alert for Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi on Tuesday. Coming to Himachal’s death toll, 303 people have lost their lives since June 20, as per Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). Coming to the now-damaged Sher-e-Punjab restaurant, it was not only a famous tourist spot, but was also popular among celebrities.
Check out the viral post:
“Tragic situation in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. In Manali, the iconic Sher-e-Punjab restaurant was heavily damaged by the strong floodwaters. Most of the building was washed away, leaving only the front gate wall standing,” the post read.
The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘GoHimachal_’. The post was shared yesterday and pulled 644K views from people.

Here’s how netizens reacted:
“Call me insensitive, but I love it. The river must claim the land that belongs to it. By Law, there should be no construction within 3-5 Km of either side of any Pahadi river,” a user commented in the comment section.
“This is not at all tragic, this hotel was so close to the river, expected! It's in fact foolish that the hotel operated at such a proximity to the river! All the way along the old manali bridge you can see such hotels commonly, just beside the river!” added another.
