One of the major reasons why many are choosing to cook EVERYTHING at home is the hygiene that restaurants and streetside vendors often fail to maintain
in India. However, what do you do if the food packed inside the unopened packet is already contaminated? The internet was left shocked and furious after a disgusting video from a ‘poha factory’ came forward. The clip showed some men sitting on heaps of ‘poha’ on the factory floor, while casually packing the same ‘poha’ into clean-looking packets. All in all, what can a food outlet or a foodstall do if the very raw material lacks hygiene and safety? The video immediately went viral on social media, leaving the internet reacting. Ironically, the ‘poha’ packet read ‘premium quality’ in the front- which the netizens were quick to notice. Many bashed the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), while others called India problematic in terms of food safety. Times Now could not confirm the details and the authenticity of the post. Check out the viral post: “The packaging may look premium and appealing, giving the impression of high-quality poha. However, the extremely unhygienic way in which it is being packed is deeply disturbing. Where is our food safety authority, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and where are the other regulatory institutions? The health of Indian consumers is being continuously compromised, and this kind of negligence cannot be ignored any longer,” the post read. The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Nalanda_index’. The viral post was shared yesterday and pulled more than 2M views from people.

Internet’s reactions:
“FSSAI knows about this, I’m sure they are collecting money every month without fail from them,” a user said. “Never buy anything that comes from India. Food safety is a joke here,” commented the next.

“@fssaiindia is the most hopeless and useless department in the Indian government,” commented the next person. “And we who wake up in the morning and start with poha first thing in the morning,” added another.
“Every company should show their manufacturing process on YouTube, so that we can decide which product to purchase,” added another. “Should not this be enough proof to suspend fssai official of the region and cancellation of mill licence,” added another.
