In a significant political development in West Bengal, BJP's Legislative Party leader Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the state's first BJP Chief Minister
on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Dhami, attended the swearing-in ceremony along with several other senior NDA leaders. As PM Modi arrived for the swearing-in ceremony, he bowed to the people of the state. A video of the event shows the Prime Minister kneeling on stage and bowing before the 'jan shakti' of Bengal.

Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari and 5 other MLAs amid the 'Jai Shri Ram' slogan, drumbeats, and a sea of fluttering saffron flags.

BJP won 207 seats in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, while the Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured 80 seats after ruling the state for 15 years.
