Bengaluru Water Supply Cut: Residents of Bengaluru are advised that the Cauvery River water supply will be disrupted for 60 hours, from 15 to 17 September,
due to urgent maintenance work. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) will temporarily shut down pumping stations under Cauvery Stage V to carry out the repairs. Additionally, maintenance will take place at Phase-1 and Phase-2 pumping stations of Cauvery Stages I, II, III, and IV from 6 am on 16 September to 6 am on 17 September. BWSSB Chairman V Ram Prasath Manohar stated that this maintenance is essential to ensure the smooth and reliable operation of pumping stations and main pipelines. As a result, water supply will be affected in all areas reliant on the Cauvery project. Residents are urged to store sufficient water in advance. Ram Prasath Manohar said, quoted by The News Minute. Bengaluru gets its drinking water from a reservoir 90 km away and about 350 metres below the city. To pump this water uphill, BWSSB spends nearly Rs 3 crore on electricity every day, which meets only half the city’s water demand. The four stages of the Cauvery Water Supply Project currently supply around 1,460 million litres of water daily. When Cauvery Stage V starts, it will add another 750 million litres per day, which will increase electricity costs significantly. The shutdown will affect water supply in all areas that depend on the Cauvery project. The board has asked residents to store enough water before the maintenance begins.
