Several Gulf nations reported fresh missile and drone attacks just hours after Iran and the United States announced a two-week ceasefire. The United Arab
Emirates said its air defence systems were actively intercepting incoming Iranian missiles and drones. According to the Defence Ministry, explosions heard across parts of the country were caused by the interception of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles. Operations at Abu Dhabi’s Habshan gas complex were briefly suspended after debris from interceptions sparked a fire early Wednesday. Authorities said two Emiratis and one Indian national were injured. Kuwait also reported a wave of Iranian drones since the morning, with its military saying several targeted key oil facilities, power stations and water desalination plants. The Defence Ministry described the strikes as “intense hostile attacks,” adding that 28 drones were intercepted, though some caused significant infrastructure damage. In Bahrain, officials said debris from intercepted drones injured two people and damaged homes in the Sitra area. Explosions were reported in the capital, Manama, with smoke seen rising from Sitra Island, which hosts major energy facilities. Authorities also confirmed a fire at a site targeted in the attacks, which was later brought under control, according to a report by Al Jazeera. Iranian state media said the strikes were carried out in retaliation for attacks on its oil facilities earlier in the day. Despite the escalation, there remains cautious hope that the ceasefire will hold. Analysts suggest the continued attacks may be due to fragmented command within Iran’s military, rather than a coordinated policy shift. Elsewhere, Iranian media reported a fire at an oil refinery on Lavan Island following an attack, while explosions were also reported on Sirri Island. No casualties were reported in either incident. The ceasefire agreement between Washington and Tehran was reached just before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump. In recent weeks, Gulf countries have faced repeated Iranian strikes targeting energy infrastructure, amid broader tensions following US and Israeli military action that began in late February.
