Two back-to-back earthquakes struck Afghanistan on Saturday, sending tremors across parts of northern India, including Jammu and Kashmir. According to initial
reports, the consecutive quakes hit within a short interval, triggering panic in several areas as residents rushed out of their homes. Mild to moderate tremors were felt in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, though there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. According to seismic data, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake hit Afghanistan at 8:24 am IST, followed by another tremor of magnitude 4.8 at 8:46 am. Both quakes occurred at significant depths of around 170 km, which often leads to tremors being felt over a wider region. A day earlier, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake was recorded in Leh, Ladakh, at a depth of 130 km.
