What is the story about?
Washington: Donald Trump on Monday posted a photo of New Delhi's India Gate on his Truth Social account with a message saying "beautiful triumphal arch,
ours will be the greatest of them all."
What is a Triumphal Arch?
A triumphal arch is a monumental, freestanding stone structure. It can have one or multiple arched passageways and is generally built to honour great military victory, freedom struggles with names of nationalists, soldiers, troops embed in the stone, reflecting a nation’s journey over the ages and times.
It originates from ancient Rome and often featuring elaborate carvings and inscriptions celebrating triumph.
It is seen as a grand gateway, symbolising imperial power and successful campaigns, with famous examples including Paris's Arc de Triomphe and Rome's Arch of Constantine.
Is There A Hidden Message Behind 'Ours Will Be The Greatest'
Trump's posts featuring India Gate come at a time when both nations are negotiating a Bilateral Trade Deal (BTA), but several issues, including his tariffs, India's resistance in opening up some sectors of its market, purchase of Russian oil, among others, are yet to be sorted out.
However, the US President has time and again said that India-US will have a very good trade deal. His latest mention of the trade deal had come during the World Economic Forum in Davos, concluded last month, when he praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a 'fantastic' man, and added that the two nations will have a good deal.
Just weeks after Trump's Davos remarks, India and the European Union signed what they called the 'Mother of All Deals,' combining 27 European nations on the occasion of India's 77th Republic Day in the presence of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Council.
And now, just a week after the India-EU deal, with Trump posting a pic of India Gate and giving it a touch of "beautiful Triumphal Arch" reference, adding that their's would be the greatest, is he hinting at something towards trade business?
