Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday appealed to Opposition parties not to disrupt proceedings in Parliament, even as he assured
them of space to raise their concerns. Just minutes later, Lok Sabha was adjourned by Speaker Om Birla till noon amid Opposition's protest. Opposition members raised slogans against police action on students agitating against NEET paper leak and other matters.
Ruckus Preplanned, Says Speaker Om Birla
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said the Opposition members disrupted the House proceedings in a "pre-planned manner."
"Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is standing to ask a question, but Opposition members are not allowing Question Hour to proceed," he said.
Birla said that some members were roaming in the Parliament House complex in different getups. Birla said such actions lower the dignity of the house. He then adjourned the proceedings till noon.
Discuss, Don't Disrupt: Rijiju's Message To The Opposition
"Several other important bills are also listed for discussion today. I appeal to the Opposition parties to raise whatever issues they wish to raise, but they should not disrupt the passage of bills, Question Hour, or other important parliamentary business. That would be in everyone's interest," Rijiju said.
"Since today is Friday, the agenda mainly includes Private Members' Bills. We hope that everyone will cooperate to ensure the smooth functioning of Parliament," he added.

Speaking on the anti-paper leak bill, Rijiju said that the bill was passed "with the support of a majority of Members of Parliament." "There was no real opposition to the bill... those who did oppose it did so for political reasons. Everyone is serious about education, and there is broad concern over the issue of exam paper leaks.," Rijiju said, adding that the priority of the government is to implement it quickly.
Parliament on Thursday passed The Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The legislation provides for stricter punishment, up to 10 years in jail and a heftier fine of Rs 50 lakh, for paper leaks.
Opposition, BJP MPs Protests at Parliament's Makar Dwar
Earlier today, Opposition MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and others, held a protest at the Makar Dwar of the Parliament against Union Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged 'police excesses' against protestors during the July 20 march-led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The leaders also raised the issue of alleged embezzlement of donations at Ayodhya's Ram Mandir.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand BJP MPs stage a silent protest in the Parliament against the alleged corruption in recruitment examinations, including JPSC and JSSC-CGL in Jharkhand, and demand a CBI inquiry in these matters.
