A private aircraft carrying eight people crashed and overturned at the Bangor International Airport in Maine, according to preliminary information. The
plane is a Bombardier Challenger 650 business jet and airport sources told CNN in a statement that emergency crews responded to the incident at around 7:45 pm ET. Reacting to the incident, Bangor International airport, via a statement on X (formerly Twitter), said: "Please avoid the airport. The runway is closed at this time." Emergency services were dispatched to the airport at around 20:00 local time on Sunday after reports of an aircraft incident on a runway. Authorities have not yet released official details about what happened. Images broadcast by local station WABI-TV showed a significant emergency response on the airfield, with smoke visible in the area. Heavy snow could also be seen at the scene, though the cause of the incident has not been confirmed. Officials have not said what type of aircraft was involved or how many people were on board. Early reports suggest it may have been a small passenger jet. Bangor International Airport, in eastern Maine, operates as a regional commercial airport serving the state.
