Amid heavy rains, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on a section of the Delhi-Kolkata highway in Bihar for the last four days, with no relief to the commuters.
For days now, trucks, buses, and cars have been stuck on the stretch for several kilometres, with almost no sign of movement. The traffic expanding on around 65-kilometre road stretch from Rohtas to Aurangabad has now created panic and chaos among commuters. The highway, riddled with potholes and waterlogging, has made the roads dangerously slippery and unsafe for the travellers. This began after torrential rains hit Bihar's Rohtas on Friday, according to a NDTV report. Vehicles, including trucks, have been struggling to stay stable on the slippery roads as the situation worsens. According to the report, neither the National Highway Authority of India nor the road construction company has taken any action yet. The Friday rain created a flood-like situation in several districts of Bihar as water accumulated in residential and public areas. Moreover, many mud houses in the district have collapsed, with hospitals and schools also being affected. The Rohtas district administration issued an alert, urging people to exercise caution and stay indoors.
Moreover, on Wednesday, the met department has issued a yellow alert across 26 districts of Bihar, warning of light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The officials have warned people to stay cautious and avoid working in open during lightning.
