The Indian Stock Market has seen an expansion in the investors' base in July 2026 by up to fivefold since FY2019, reaching 13.37 crore. India’s registered
investor base has reached 13.37 crore in July 2026 from 2.75 crore, as stock market participation expands beyond its traditional strongholds in western India. The pace of investor onboarding picked up in July, with 13.3 lakh new registrations, up 14.1% from June. Registrations, however, remained 12.1% lower than in July 2025. In the stock markets, the investor base is also becoming younger as those investors below 30 accounted for 37.9% of the registered investor base as of June 2026. Those aged 30-39 represented another 30.2% while the median age of registered investors stood at 33 years. Investors below 30 accounted for 59% of new registrations so far in FY27, up from 56.4% in FY26.The median age of a new investor was just 27 years.
North India led by UP leads:
North India had 4.93 crore registered investors in July, accounting for 36.9% of India’s total investor base with the investor base has expanded 6.4 times since FY19. That has pushed North India’s share of the national investor base to 36.9% from 27.9% in FY19.
West India followed with 3.89 crore investors, or 29.1%, while South India had 2.82 crore and East India 1.62 crore. Investor base expanded faster than East India’s sixfold increase, South India’s 4.2-fold growth and West India’s fourfold rise.
East India has also gained share, while West and South India have lost ground.
Among the states, Uttar Pradesh led monthly additions with 1.9 lakh new investors, accounting for 14% of the total.
Maharashtra added 1.4 lakh investors, Gujarat 1.2 lakh, Tamil Nadu 90,000 and West Bengal 80,000. The five states together contributed 46.6% of July’s new registrations.
Gujarat recorded the strongest month-on-month rebound among major states, with registrations rising 57%. Haryana followed with growth of 20.9%, Tamil Nadu 18.9%, Rajasthan 18% and Maharashtra 10%.
