What is the story about?
The Delhi government is all set to launch the Bharat Taxi app, offering an alternative to existing cab-hailing services provided by private firms. The preparations
for the taxi service have been completed and will be launched on January 1, coming as a New Year's gift for the Delhiites. The app is based on a xero-commission model and will be operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. Residents of Delhi can book auto, taxis, and bike services from the app and can download the Bharat Taxi app on Google Play as well as the Apple store. Users can now register on the app with their mobile number, enter their pick-up and drop-off locations, choose a ride, and book the app.
What is Bharat Taxi?
Bharat Taxi is a government-backed initiative that was developed under the Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD). This service will allow drivers to become co-owners and shareholders, giving them more power.

Moreover, safety features will also be provided on the app, including integration with the Delhi police, verified driver onboarding, and the option to share ride details.

How is it different from other cab service firms?
With Bharat Taxi, the cab drivers will get 100 per cent of their earnings, hence it is not based on a commission system that works in other private ride-hailing platforms.
Not just for drivers’ benefits, it will also be better for the customers, as the taxi will offer affordable and transparent fares, with no surge fee.
Saarthis, and not drivers
The drivers of the ‘Bharat Taxis’ would be called ‘Saarthis’ (Charioteer), and not ‘driver’, or ‘bhaiya’. As of now, 56,000 drivers have already registered on the platform.
The cooperative enrolled over 51,000 drivers across Delhi and Gujarat's Saurashtra region, surpassing New York-based The Driver's Cooperative.
