The air quality of Delhi NCR has once again plunged to the 'hazardous' category, with students and parents wondering if schools in the national capital
region will remain closed tomorrow, January 19, 2026. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked the GRAP Stage IV restrictions across Delhi metro region on Saturday as the AQI reached 'severe plus' levels. Considering the situation, there’s a possibility that the educational institutions will shut down or shift to hybrid mode, as it’s harmful for students to step outside in low AQI levels. Yellow Alert Issued for Delhi NCR As per PTI reports, on Sunday morning, a thick fog gripped the national capital, with the minimum temperature settling at 5.3 degrees Celsius, 2.3 notches below the season's average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded a yellow alert due to dense fog at numerous isolated places until afternoon. Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 5.3 degrees Celsius; Palam, 8 degrees Celsius; Lodhi Road, 6.8 degrees Celsius; the Ridge, 7.2 degrees Celsius; and Ayanagar, 7 degrees Celsius, the IMD data showed. Earlier, the government schools in Delhi were directed to remain shut between January 1 and 15, 2026. Private schools were exercising their discretion in announcing holidays. Due to this, many parents were complaining that their children were being asked to attend physical classes in chilly winters.
