Ola, Uber, Rapido Drivers Strike: App-based transport workers have called a strike on February 7 to demand better working conditions for drivers of Uber, Ola and Rapido.
The protest, "All India Breakdown," has been called by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), along with other labour union bodies. “App-based transport workers across India will observe an All India Breakdown on 7 Feb 26. No minimum fares. No regulation. Endless exploitation,” TGPWU said while announcing the strike.
Why Ola, Uber and Rapido Drivers Are Going on Strike on February 7
Drivers working with app-based platforms such as Ola, Uber and Rapido have called for a nationwide strike on February 7 to protest what they describe as unfair pay and poor working conditions.
In a letter to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, the drivers’ union said many of their issues have remained unresolved for years. One of their main concerns is the absence of government-regulated fares for app-based transport services.

According to the union, companies like Ola, Uber, Rapido and Porter decide fares on their own for autos, cabs and bike taxis. This, they said, has led to unstable incomes, exploitation and long working hours for drivers.
The union warned that while aggregator companies continue to make profits, millions of drivers are struggling financially and being pushed closer to poverty. It urged the government to step in and act immediately.
What Are the Drivers Demanding?
The drivers have placed several demands before the government, referring to the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, which call for proper regulation and protection of driver livelihoods.
Their key demands include:
- Immediate fixing of minimum base fares for app-based services such as autos, cabs and bike taxis by both Central and state governments, after consulting recognised driver unions.
- A ban on the use of private, non-commercial vehicles for commercial passenger or goods transport, or making it mandatory to convert such vehicles into commercial ones, as per existing laws and guidelines.
What Should Commuters Expect?
Passengers may face travel disruptions on February 7, though the impact could differ from city to city depending on how many drivers join the strike.
Commuters who depend on app-based cabs, autos and bike taxis are advised to plan alternative travel arrangements, especially during peak hours in the morning and evening.
