Noida/Delhi: Travelling from Noida to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in just 20 minutes might sound like a fantasy, but it’s about to become
a reality. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the long-awaited Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway on August 16, promising to slash current travel times, which often stretch beyond two hours, to a fraction. The grand inauguration will be held near Dwarka on the expressway itself, with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and several MPs and MLAs from the Delhi-NCR region in attendance. Once operational, UER-2 will serve as Delhi’s new “outer ring road,” giving direct airport connectivity to key areas of the capital and improving links between NCR cities such as Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak, Jind, and Bahadurgarh. Built at a cost of around ₹8,000 crore, the four-to-six lane expressway runs from Alipur on the Delhi-Chandigarh Highway through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and links up with the Delhi-Jaipur Highway at Mahipalpur. Special connector roads will further link Bahadurgarh, the Delhi-Rohtak Highway, Sonipat Highway, and Gurugram-Sohna Highway—eventually feeding into the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Officials say the project will not only save time but also reduce fuel consumption and ease traffic pressure on some of Delhi’s busiest routes. With the final touches being completed in the next 10 days, Delhi-NCR commuters could soon be saying goodbye to airport-run traffic jams—forever.
