Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has received a threatening email, triggering a security alert and search operations at multiple locations in Mumbai including
Amitabh Bachchan's residence. The threatening email reportedly mentioned three locations, the Bombay High Court, Mahalaxmi Racecourse and Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s residence, Jalsa. Following the threat, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with the police, conducted security checks at all three locations. However, no suspicious object has been found so far, according to sources. Sources further indicate that Mumbai Police are investigating the threatening email to ascertain its origin and identify those responsible. The incident comes amid the Bombay High Court’s Diwali vacation. While the court remains on vacation, several matters are being heard before the vacation bench.
Not The First Such Threat in Mumbai
The latest threat comes against the backdrop of earlier threatening emails targeting prominent establishments and public representatives in Mumbai.
In October, the office of Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde received a threatening email, which was also addressed to Deputy Mayor Sanjay Shankar Ghadi. The email, received at around 11:31 am, threatened a bomb attack at the Mayor’s office at 3:11 pm and also mentioned a school and other locations.
The same email reportedly threatened a bomb blast at Mahalaxmi Racecourse on November 27, bringing the racecourse into focus once again in the latest threat email.
The threat to the Bombay High Court comes at a time when the court is observing its Diwali vacation. While regular court proceedings are suspended, several matters are being heard before the vacation bench.
Police are probing the latest threat and security agencies remain on alert. There has been no confirmation of any explosive being recovered from the three locations so far.
